Agarwals company had released videos of the film. Even a movie as popular as Bhanu Pelo Lottery is on the brink of getting lost. The same is the status of Atol Joler Ahoban, starring Soumitra Chatterjee, Chhabi Biswas and Chhaya Devi, says Khaitan. The Uttam Kumar-Chhaya Devi starrer Suryo Shakhhi has no negatives.Įarlier, the print was decent enough to be screened. Negatives are missing and with time the videos have deteriorated. Binod Kumar Khaitan, spokesperson of Heart Video, had bought the rights of some 250-odd Bengali films. The old video of the Uttam-Suchitra starrer Priyo Bandhobi isnt worth viewing any longer and restoration work for this movie is next to impossible right now. But what about the others, including those starring Uttam, Suchitra Sen and Soumitra Chatterjee? The Uttam Kumar-Mala Sinha starrer Surer Poroshe used to be once available on video cassette.īut even that has deteriorated beyond repair. Satyajit Ray and Ritwick Ghatak movies have been restored, but what about the rest? It has often been reported before that many of Tapan Sinhas movies are lost forever. Swadesh Sarkar directed Soumitra Chatterjee, Arati Bhattacharya, Bikash Roy-starrer Nandita too has no negatives and videos in circulation.Īll these films are lost and there is little I can do about it. The list of lost jewels is endless. There has been no video release or telecast of the movie. Another very important patriotic film is Heman Guptas Bhuli Nai, starring Pradeep Kumar, Bikash Roy, Tulsi Chakraborty and Satya Bandopadhyay, among others. We have never been able to release a video for this movie either, he says. Sukesh Agarwal, the proprietor of Channel B, which has the rights of 300 Bengali films, is running from pillar to post to get a source from which the film can be restored. This 1958 film starring Bhanu Bandopadhyay, Arundhuti Devi, Jwahar Roy, Jwahar Ganguly and Molina Devi has no negatives left. If Moner Moyur is awaiting resurrection, Uttams Manmoyee Girls School is on the verge of slipping into oblivion. Last heard, the films right holder is now trying to trace a better print so that the audio track from that print can be attached to the restored one to make it screening-fit. But the unmistakable voice of the Mahanayak was dubbed by someone else! As a result, Doordarshan quickly rejected the screening request for this restored film. He was honoured in Kolkata's 16th Tele Cine Awards with the Lifetime Achievement award for his outstanding contributions in Bengali films in 2017.The songs in the film resembled the old soundtrack.Veteran Indian Bengali film actor Ranjit Mallick honoured with ‘bbarta award’ for 2017 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Bengali cinema. His daughter, Koel Mallick is also an actress in the Bengali film industry.
